Summer 2021
Even with the covid restrictions, we have managed to have lots of fun while trying to get our third flag for water.
We have now completed our 7 steps for our Water Flag and we will be submitting all our work to Green Schools in the hope of achieving our water flag. Scroll down to see photos and details below of some of the highlights of this 2 year programme.
We had a water code competition . We received entries from all classes. Nicole in 4th class was our winner. Billy in 3rd class created an amazing Green Schools poster and also received a prize. 2 of our Senior Infants even entered the competition!
Here is our new water code :
Turn off taps
When not in use
Save water there is no excuse.
Make sure to report leaks
Before water is lost for weeks.
Use a watering can instead of a hose.
Less water is wasted, everyone knows.
In classroom sinks, use a bowl
To keep the water under control.
We must have rainwater tanks
To save water like money in a bank.
Schools can lead the way
Let’s start to save water TODAY!
We had our WATER ACTION DAY on May 28th 2021. We had a walk for water to highlight how children in the developing world often have to walk long distances to access water, which often is not clean. We did some water experiments, and some water art. All classes had a water relay. All water used was taken from the water buttresses and put back after to ensure no water was wasted. Take a look at the photos. Thank you also for all the generous donations for Unicef.
In January 2011, our school registered with AN TAISCE to become a GREEN SCHOOL.
We were awarded our first green flag in 2012 for Litter and Waste. We had a great flag raising ceremony on our last day of school in June 2012. Our school is currently trying to get our second green flag for EnergyConservation. We are trying to cut back on our energy usage and conserve energy in our school.
We set up a new Green Schools Committee which is made up of children from each class, parents, and staff members. Each week the GREEN TEAM meet to discuss green issues, evaluate our progress and come up with new ideas.

Raising our second green flag - Our Energy Flag
On Thursday the 23rd of June, we raised our second green flag for Energy. Ms Sullivan, our green's school co-ordinator thank all those who helped with obtaining this award especially our Greens Schools Committee. All Greens School committee members were presented with certificates and prizes in the hall. Afterwards, Ms Sullivan invited Eileen Devery (Tidy Towns co-ordinator) and two green school committee members Sarah and Paddy to raise "Our Energy Flag". It was a fantastic day. A big congratulations again to Ms Sullivan and the Green's Schools Committee on their wonderful achievement.
Our Green's School Garden
In May the Junior and Senior Infants planted sunflower seeds, 3rd and 4th class planted lettuce and first and second class created a bug hotel. A big thank you to Ms Kenny and Bridie Delaney for helping the children with this.

Green Schools Low Energy Day!!
On Friday the 13th of November 2015, We had a Green School's Low Energy Day. All teachers and children wore a green item of clothing to mark the occasion. During that day, we used as little electricity as possible. All electrical appliances such as interactive white board, computers, photocopiers, lights (if possible) etc were turned off. Children from first class to sixth class designed energy posters. All teachers did lessons on Energy and Energy Conservation. Here are some pictures from that day.
Energy Poster Winners!!
Litter Picking
We continue to keep our school clean by putting our litter in the bin. Every Friday the litter squad from 3rd and 4th class spend five minutes collecting litter around the school and putting it in the bin!!
Our School Garden

Our Green School Code (for recycling and reducing our litter waste)
Litter, Litter,
On the ground
Litter, Litter
All around
Just pick it up
and lend a hand.
To keep our
clean and tidy land
Recycle all your paper and plastics.
To keep our school looking fantastic
If everyone can do their bit
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle it

Energy Flag
We have now applied for our Greens School second Flag the "Energy Flag". All the children in the school did a Energy Conservation Poem. Here is a sample of some of the winning poems. Well done to all those who took part!

Our Energy Green School Code
If you think about it
There are many things we can do
To help save our energy
In our homes and schools too!
We can start by closing doors
To help keep in the heat.
Instead of in the cold
And burning our peat.
We can turn off taps and Sockets
Radios and Tv's.
Things we are not using
Like nintendo's and PSP's.
Remember to turn off our Lights
We don't need them when its bright.
We only need them on at night.
By doing just these little things
We help in a big Way
As our energy is cut
And our bills are easier to pay.
