On Tuesday the 16th of March 2016 our school commemorated the 1916 Rising by holding a gathering in front of the school. All parents and members of the community were invited to the event. The children started by singing the Chorus of John Legend's song "Imagine" and an Irish favourite "oro sé do bheatha abhaile". Members of sixth class read out the proclamation as it was in 1916. This was then followed by both 3rd + 4th and 5th + 6th class reading out their re imagined version of the proclamation 2016. The gathering concluded with the raising of our National Flag by Dillon in sixth class and Emily in Junior Infants. The children sang "Amhráin na Bhfiann" as the flag was raised. It was a joyous occasion and after Mrs White invited parents and members of the community to come to the school hall to see children's work/projects on the 1916 Rising and have a cup of tea. A big thank you to all those involved. It was a historic occasion that will be hopefully remembered in years to come.

Remembering 1916
On Tuesday the 13th of October 2015 two army officers from the army barracks in Athlone visited our school. They talked to the children about the 100 year anniversary of the 1916 rising which will be celebrated countrywide next year (2016). They quizzed the children on why we will celebrate this event and the meaning of the colours on our Irish flag. They presented the youngest child in the school with the Irish Flag. After that Sixth class read out the 1916 Proclamation and The Proclamation was then presented to the oldest child in the school. Finally children from fifth and sixth class sang the Irish National Anthem "Amhrán na bhFiann". It was a wonderland day and members of our community even visited the school to celebrate with us on this momentous and historic occasion
